課程概述

音樂在歐洲文化史中所扮演的角色，並非一直是我們認為的，聲音的藝術。本課程以原典閱讀為手段，探討音樂 (musica) 在歐洲歷史中不同面向的展現。

課程目標

課程大致分為兩個部份：前半討論音樂從中世紀一直到十九世紀的不同呈現方式，課程後半為二十世紀中葉以來，將音樂當成符號、社會現實、政治實踐、以及人類生命真實的最高表現等。

課程要求

本課程為以討論為主的進階討論課，修課同學除了在學期末必須完成一含參考書目之書面報告外，其餘評量標準皆以期中之討論與口頭報告表現。
